REVIVE: POSTER

REVIVE (short film) Storyboard

Shooting My short film.

Useful Stuff : Street Photo Graphy book.

Street photography uses the techniques of straight photography in that it shows a pure vision of something, like holding up a mirror to society. Street photography often tends to be ironic and can be distanced from its subject matter, and often concentrates on a single human moment, caught at a decisive or poignant moment. On the other hand, much street photography takes the opposite approach and provides a very literal and extremely personal rendering of the subject matter, giving the audience a more visceral experience of walks of life they might only be passingly familiar with. In the 20th century, street photographers have provided an exemplary and detailed record of street culture in Europe and North America, and elsewhere to a somewhat lesser extent.

VDO production workshop with MATT.

This is the camcorder workshop, it was all about the basic usage of the camcorder such as the adjusting the white balance, exposure and how to focus. What I gained is to notice that how to use the camcorder and some new technique like if you want to have the white balance at once the fast and easy way is to wear the white t-shirt with you. then you can mange to adjust it easily by shoot at the white part of the shirt.

A film about the sleeping disorder.

The style of the movie is amazing, it's so washed out and bleak (there's that word again) that it’s nearly black and white. The direction by Brad Anderson is top notch. Anderson is best known for the cult horror film Session 9 and is such skillful director that I managed not to projectile vomit when David Caruso appeared on screen in it. Here he uses that skill to immerse you fully into Reznick's world. Now that David Fincher seems to be on an extended hiatus, he leaves behind a niche Anderson could fill. I foresee big things for him.

All of this is great, but something is gnawing at me. As I said, The Machinist's success is merely partial. The bitch of it is I can't quite put my finger on what's wrong. The film is simply less then the sum of its parts. I found myself saying "Wow Bale's transformation is amazing, but was it worth it to do that to yourself for this movie?" Now don't get me wrong, as I said I genuinely like this film, it's a smart little creeper that you'll continue to think about long after you've left the theater. But.... remember that huge list of films I started off this review with? Go back to it, and if you haven't seen them all, take the money you'd have spent on The Machinist, go to a video store and fill out the holes on your list. Good though The Machinist is, those films do what it does, only ten times better.

Insomnia is the second major movie from director Chris Nolan. His first effort was the critically acclaimed and totally unique film Memento. We are fans of that flick as well and looked forward to seeing what he could do here especially with Al Pacino in the starring role. The result is a solid, albeit unspectacular, effort.

The film has some gorgeous scenery, it is well acted and well directed. So what's the problem you ask? The answer is the story. There's no mystery, we know "whodunnit" pretty early in the movie. We're just along for the ride to see how it all works out. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. For us, this time, it didn't.

Ideas For the Short Film competition.

Overview

There are two types of insomnia. The most common type is called secondary or comorbid insomnia. This type of insomnia is a symptom or side effect of some other problem.
More than 8 out of 10 people who have insomnia are believed to have secondary insomnia. Certain medical conditions, medicines, sleep disorders, and substances can cause secondary insomnia.
In contrast, primary insomnia isn't due to a medical problem, medicines, or other substances. It is its own disorder. A number of life changes can trigger primary insomnia, including long-lasting stress and emotional upset.
Insomnia can cause excessive daytime sleepiness and a lack of energy. It also can make you feel anxious, depressed, or irritable. You may have trouble focusing on tasks, paying attention, learning, and remembering. This can prevent you from doing your best at work or school.
Insomnia also can cause other serious problems. For example, you may feel drowsy while driving, which could lead to an accident.

Outlook

Secondary insomnia often resolves or improves without treatment if you can stop its cause—especially if you can correct the problem soon after it starts. For example, if caffeine is causing your insomnia, stopping or limiting your intake of the substance may cause your insomnia to go away.
Lifestyle changes, including better sleep habits, often help relieve acute insomnia. For chronic insomnia, your doctor may recommend a type of counseling called cognitive-behavioral therapy or medicines.

Poorman Steadicam

This is a DIY (low tech) camera stabilizer in form similar to the MERLIN. I used mostly scrap or surplus materials. The functioning depends on balance and inertia. A piece of 1/8 inch aluminium forms the camera platform. An aluminium torch was reconfigured to act as a handle. It's not an ideal shape for the hand, but the head allows the ball bearing of the gimbal to be held in place satisfactorily. A curved aluminium tube screwed to the camera plate holds the steel washers used as counterweights. The pictures here represent experiments over a period of time, and dimensions and balance configurations are different from time to time.
A crucial element  of the design is the gimbal, and I developed my own low friction design using a universal joint combined with a small ball bearing.

127 Hours : Cinematography study 01.

In interviews, Boyle has indicated that the meaning of this story, its take-home message, is that it made Ralston a better person; he learned that he couldn't do everything himself, and that he should swallow his pride and ask for help a little more.
Well, that could be true. But I think the compelling thing about 127 Hours is that it has no message, it has no metaphorical meaning. Aron Ralston one day cut his own arm off. And that's it. His choice was as terrible and unavoidable as the fact of death itself, which, of course, Ralston's magnificent survival has not modified one iota.
Visually, Boyle's film is compelling and there is a poetry in Ralston's vulnerable, fragile flesh being crushed under the weight of a landmass trillions of years in the making. It is an exciting, touching film, which Boyle brings off with enormous skill. It's a skill for which lesser directors would give their … Well, they'd give an awful lot.
